Motorizing System Planning Guide and Wiring Diagram

Use paper and pencil to plan your general window and skylight motorizing system to help you decide what windows and skylights you want to motorize and how you want to control them.

Note: The term "Control Switch" refers to either the LC-I Control Switch or the LC-II Control Switch.

Keep these things in mind during your planning session:

• Refer to the wiring diagram below to help you plan your motorizing system. It shows you how all the components are related.
• You can motorize casement and awning windows equipped with hand-crank opening hardware.
• Casement and awning windows with motorized locks must use a Control Switch dedicated to the window and its motorized locks.
• You can motorize most skylights equipped with hand-crank opening hardware.
• Each Control Switch requires a separate transformer to provide power to the motors.

Pick your components:

• Do you want to control your windows and skylights with optional controls such as an RS Module, IR Receiver, Rain Sensor, home automation system, or thermostat (Honeywell CT51A or CT87B)? If you do, select LC-II Control Switches. If you don't need these optional controls you can use the less capable LC-I Control Switches.
• How many casement or awning windows do you want to motorize? Each window will require a Standard Motor Kit.
• Do any of these casement or awning windows have locks that you want to motorize? Each lock will require a Motorized Lock and each window will require a Control Switch dedicated to the window and its motorized locks.
• If you have more than one casement or awning window do you want to control them from a single Control Switch? A single Control Switch can control up to three matching windows (without motorized locks) as a group.
• How many skylights do you want to motorize? Each skylight will require a Skylight Motor Kit.
• If you have more than one skylight do you want to control them from a single Control Switch? A single Control Switch can control up to three matching skylights as a group.
• How many Control Switches do you need for your motorizing system? A separate transformer is required for each Control Switch. A Free-Air Transformer or Plug-In Transformer is provided with each LC-I Control Switch Kit and LC-II Control Switch Kit.
• Do you need to control one or more LC-II Control Switches with a remote switch? An RS Module can control up to 25 LC-II Control Switches which means you can control up to 75 motors with a single remote switch.
• Do you need to control one or more LC-II Control Switches with an infrared receiver? An IR Receiver can control up to 25 LC-II Control Switches which means you can control up to 75 motors with a single infrared control.
• Do you need the added benefit of Rain Sensors? A Rain Sensor can be added to every LC-II Control Switch, RS Module, and IR Receiver.
• Do you need to add some automation to your motorizing system? A Honeywell CT51A or CT87B thermostat can be used with one or more LC-II Control Switches for automatic heat ventilation. An X-10 ® Universal Module can also be used with one or more LC-II Control Switches for automating your motorizing system using the common X-10 ® Home Automation System. As a note, these automation controls make use of the Open and Close inputs on an LC-II Control Switch.
